In anticipation of World News Day on September 28, a collaborative effort among the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF), WAN-IFRA’s World Editors Forum, and Project Kontinuum has unveiled the “Choose Truth” campaign. This global initiative unites over 100 countries, hundreds of news organizations, media associations, and individuals to champion the importance of fact-based journalism.

World News Day, co-organized by the World Editors Forum and the CJF, aims to spotlight the critical role that independent journalists play in fostering informed communities. This year’s campaign theme, “Choose Truth,” was developed by Project Kontinuum, led by Branko Brkic, founder of Daily Maverick.

The “Choose Truth” campaign underscores the unwavering dedication of journalists to present the facts, while recognizing the public’s struggle against a deluge of misinformation. A joint article for World News Day highlights the importance of truth amidst the chaos, emphasizing the commitment to defending truth in the face of noise and violence.

The campaign serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold the principles of fact-based journalism. In today’s world, where misinformation abounds, the role of journalists in delivering accurate, reliable, and independent news is more crucial than ever. The “Choose Truth” initiative emphasizes that truth is not merely a choice; it is the cornerstone of a free and democratic society.

World News Day is a global initiative designed to raise public awareness of the essential role journalists play in providing trustworthy news and information that supports citizens and democracy. It is celebrated annually on September 28.

World News Day is presented by the World Editors Forum, the Canadian Journalism Foundation, and Daily Maverick’s Project Kontinuum.
