Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) has announced the appointment of Elzio Barreto as Senior Vice President, Head of Media Relations.

In this role, Barreto will oversee HKEX’s press and social media functions, including global press relations and both Chinese and international social media channels, to enhance the company’s corporate reputation and branding. He will report to Interim Group Chief Communications Officer, Jeffrey Ng.

Barreto joins HKEX after more than three years at EY, where he developed and led the external communications strategy for the financial services practice across 10 key Asia Pacific markets.

With over two decades of communications and editorial experience, Barreto began his career reporting for Investor’s Business Daily in the U.S., followed by Bloomberg News and Reuters in Brazil. After moving to Hong Kong in 2011, he focused on covering Greater China and Asia’s equity capital markets, private equity, and FinTech news before transitioning to communications at Accenture in 2017.
